I love to tell stories with pictures and create both beautiful images and lasting experiences from our collaboration together. Over the last 16 years, I have honed my skills as an artist. I love working with people at all the important moments in life to create images that will be as heartfelt and impactful over the years as they are the moment we create them. It is truly a joyful and fun endeavor!
I love photography for so many reasons. I have been enamored with this form of artistic expression since junior high school! Things have changed so much with technology over the years and I so enjoy the continued learning and capacities that I have developed. In adolescence, photography was a way to find out more about who I was and express that in a way without the need for words. This has come full circle for me in recent years as I have mentored adolescents in their journey to discover photography and themselves.
When my children were born I found a whole new world in photographing little ones and for several years this became a focus for me~ Ever changing there was always some new discovery or capacity to see and I rarely worked with a tripod as those little ones move….fast!
I am self taught for the most part, but have enjoyed taking photography workshops in the Badlands, SD, Santa Fe, NM, and locally as well as abroad in Europe, Ireland, and Mexico. On one trip to France, I created a body of work that was shown at the Mary Williams Fine Arts Gallery in Boulder. There is nothing like a whole new culture to open your eyes to new ways of seeing beauty!
In recent years, I have been drawn to photography as a way to create connection and have been blessed with great clients who are open, engaging and willing to go there. When I say “connection”, I am referring to an individual understanding better who they are as well as finding the special moments between people. Words can’t always fully describe what images can convey in those heartfelt moments. Really good images don’t get old on your wall…they offer an authentic and honest expression that is timeless. This has been a really rich and fulfilling part of my evolution as an artist. It also produces really beautiful and lasting images and memories.
Recently, I co-taught the yearbook class for Shining Mountain Waldorf School. This really opened my eyes, in a new way, to the art of story telling and creating images that are both beautiful and photojournalistic. With a book as the end product, finding a creative way to tell the story of the whole year became paramount. Working with so many young people and seeing how they see the world was truly amazing. I learn as much from fresh perspectives as I do from the masters.
I look forward to whatever shows up next with my camera by my side. I feel grateful for the richness photography brings to life.
